In the Middle Ages, Choisy was a hamlet on the banks of the Seine populated by fishermen and bargemen. A major turning point came at the end of the 17th century when Louis XIV's cousin,Miss de Montpensier, known as "la Grande Mademoiselle", had a castle built there, which became a royal residence under Louis XV. From there comes the name of Choisy-le-Roi. On this territory, the Saint-Louis-Saint-Nicolas church and the courtiers' houses were built. In the 19th century, an important industrial development began with the arrival of leather goods, crystal and earthenware workshops. Today, the town has more than 41,000 inhabitants, returning to its historical levels of the 1960s.
