Almost bordering the capital (its northern end is only about 1 km from the Porte d'Italie), Villejuif is a rapidly changing commune. Crossed by the RN7, the former Royal Road, the city has undergone major upheavals with the arrival of the tramway, which links it to the south to Orly airport. But it is only one episode in a rich history, going back many centuries. A village burnt during the Hundred Years' War, then extending along the royal road, the city became industrialized in the 19th century. With many parks, including the Hautes-Bruyères, the city now has more than 57,000 inhabitants, a figure that has risen by more than 20% in fifteen years, proving its renewed attractiveness. Proof of this is the public transport service: after the opening of the T7 tramway line in 2013, metro lines 14 and 15 should cross Villejuif in the coming years: work is ongoing and progressing rapidly.
