Enhanced since the Gallo-Roman era, the territory of Vitry-sur-Seine gave birth to a medieval village that lived mainly from its wine production and then, in the 18th century, from its nurseries. Industrialised a hundred years later, Vitry has become a major city with a population of more than 92,000. It extends from the National Road 7 on the banks of the Seine and includes residential areas, large complexes and renowned cultural sites such as the MAC/VAL contemporary art centre, inaugurated in the 2000s and now one of the city's landmarks. The proximity of the capital means that today, the city is more and more invested by young couples, executives looking for affordable surfaces, gradually transforming the sociology of the city.
