This charming village on the banks of the Ourcq canal, ideal for walking, has been developed since prehistoric times, with numerous remains found here and there. But Varredes is best known for its quarry, whose stone was used to build Meaux Cathedral. The church of Saint-Vincent-et-Saint-Arnould, dating from the 13th and 16th centuries, remains from this distant past. Towards the end of the 19th century, Varredes became home to a canned sorrel factory, which remained in operation until 1938. Varredes was also the site of the 1914 Battle of the Marne, as evidenced by the American Memorial in Meaux.
