Built around its castle in the Middle Ages, the village soon took on the appearance of a small town. In 1531, its lord obtained permission to establish two annual fairs, on May 9 and February 3, and a weekly market on Fridays. The French Revolution brought few changes to La Houssaye-en-Brie. The seigneurial estates covering a large part of the territory remained untouched. The railroad arrived in La Houssaye-en-Brie in 1860 with the opening of the Marles-en-Brie station. In 1876, the railroad company agreed to create a stopover at La Houssaye-en-Brie, on condition that the commune and Crèvecoeur-en-Brie provided the land and bore the costs. Opened in 1879, the station operated until 1972. In 1881, the population of La Houssaye-en-Brie was 600. Today, it exceeds 1,600, making it one of the 5 most densely populated communes in the Val Briard. The first housing estates were built in 1972 and 1974. Following this demographic evolution, La Houssaye-en-Brie acquired a new town hall in 1995. 2008 saw the construction of the multi-purpose hall known as Le Cube, followed by a socio-cultural leisure center for young children. So many services for the population and a harmonious new look for this dynamic commune. And while the old fairs have long since disappeared, 2021 saw the creation of a new weekly market, on Thursdays from 4pm to 7:30pm, in front of the town hall, featuring local producers and craftsmen, as well as food trucks.
