The commune of Marles-en-Brie occupies a plateau with little relief. It is crossed by the upper part of Bréon River, before digging its valley downstream to Fontenay-Trésigny.  Its landscapes within Brie Boisée are typical of Brie, that is alternating crops and wooded areas including Lumigny wood. Marles-en-Brie is served by a station of the Paris East-Coulommiers line via Tournan, located on the edge of the town on the territory of La Houssaye-en-Brie. It is nevertheless the station known as Marles-en-Brie.The village is mentioned in the 12th century under the name of Malles. Later, Marles would depend on the bishopric of Meaux and the lordship of Tournan. Philip the Bold took it away and placed it under the dependence of his castle of Melun, but Marles remained linked to the lordship of Tournan. In the 18thcentury, Marles had a rampart in a quadrilateral form whose corners were  oriented at the cardinal points and where the doors were. This rampart was dismantled in the 19th century, but the layout has remained through the streets layout - rue de la Brêche-aux-Loups, chemin de la Ferme-du-Moulin, western beginning of rue du Chemin-Vert - and the cadastral boundaries. Marles was then owned by the Count of Eu before becoming the property of the Duke of Penthièvre until the French Revolution.Marles-en-Brie is endowed with a 13th century church built on Gallo-Roman substructions. It was placed under the patronage of Saint Germain d'Auxerre and is mainly made of sandstone and millstone. Most of the church is in Romanesque style, the nave dates from the 16th century and the vault of the main nave from the 18th century. The building accommodates many statues, as well as a 17th century wooden chest used as an altar. But the most original heritage of the town remains its wash house. As for the gourmets concerned about quality and proximity, they come directly to the Ferme du Moulin to buy poultry and other local products.
