Café-restaurant de la Fleur de Lys in La Houssaye-en-Brie, with a pleasant terrace, open all day and evening
La Fleur de Lys café-restaurant is one of the oldest buildings in the village of La Houssaye-en-Brie, if not the oldest. It is also the only business in the village that has managed to survive for nearly three centuries, all the others having disappeared over the years. The inn's signpost "La Fleur de Lys" was already hanging on its facade in 1760. In 1845 Charles Vignez was the owner of this café, billiard, wine and liquor. In 1905, Mr Martin bought the building and renamed it "Au soleil", a name that he kept for 24 years. In 1929, Mr. Bhertelin became the owner and took back its original name. The café then also became a hotel and an office of the Manufacture des Tabacs. The place was purchased by Mr Mazeau in 1956. This actor of the troupe Les Compagnons de Limodin gave the barn adjoining La Fleur de Lys to the troupe which was looking for a rehearsal room, in exchange for the work to be done on the premises. But in 1965, Mr. Daty bought the place and refused to renew the lease... In 1970, Mr Goittet became the owner. In the meantime, the two other cafés in the commune had closed their doors. Today, the Fleur de Lys is the only café-restaurant in La Houssaye-en-Brie. Open all day and in the evening, on the main square of the village, with its pleasant terrace in summer, it animates the village and always offers cigarettes and newspapers.
