During Antiquity, the Latin name was Gaudiacus before becoming Johi or Joy during the Middle Ages. It is known that Jouy-sur-Morin was located on the Roman road linking Paris to Rheims, a route of which the bridge known as the "Roman bridge" remains. If other discoveries show that the territory of the commune was occupied during the Gallo-Roman period, its medieval past is better represented with the Saint-Pierre and Saint-Paul church of the 12th and 12th centuries, which includes a Renaissance baptismal font classified as a historical monument. Jouy-sur-Morin also has an important industrial heritage with old factories, winnowings, wash houses, a wine press and a train station.
