Once upon a time, a lord by the name of Gaucher built a town in the middle of his immense lands and named it Fort Gaucher. Winding streets lead to the Saint-Romain church, the Grange aux dîmes (tithe barn), the former boiler works dating from the early 19th century, the former convent, now privately owned, the two fountains... The beautiful Place du Général-De-Gaulle is the heart of the village, and becomes very lively on market days. Once a major parachuting base renowned throughout Europe, the La Ferté-Gaucher aerodrome is now the focus of a major sports project (ULM, quad biking, paintball...), some already in place, others still to come.
