If ever there was a village worth visiting or including on a hiking trail, it's Boutigny, with its remarkable heritage: Saint-Médard church, wash houses, cotton mill, Château de Bélou... Boutigny's history dates back to the 11th century, when it became the property of the chapter of Meaux. However, it is widely believed that Saint Loup stayed here before that, in the 7th century, and miraculously cured children, leading to the construction of a chapel in the hamlet of Magny-Saint-Loup, which became a place of pilgrimage. Last but not least, it was at the Château de Magny-Saint-Loup (destroyed in 1940) that La Fontaine is said to have found the inspiration to write some of his fables..
