Lac de Vouglans begins here. Pont-de-Poitte is where the Ain widens. Its course is stopped a little further south by the Vouglans dam. The northern part of the lake is dedicated to fishing, and the Port de la Saisse, one of the three Vouglans harbors, with 131 berths and 2 pontoons, welcomes boats. Pont-de-Poitte is a paradise for freshwater fishermen, who like to camp here. But it hasn't always been a tourist destination. In the 19th century, the power of the water was used by forges, which ceased operations in 1920, to be replaced by a hydroelectric plant that operated until 1970.
