Between Morez and Saint-Claude, Longchaumois, Lacuzon's birthplace, is a commune of around 1,000 inhabitants. Rural and mountainous, it stretches from the depths of the Bienne gorges to the Ban forest (1,411 m). Farmers raise dairy cows, and a number of companies are active in the eyewear and plastics industries. With a Natura 2000 site, it's a green resort in summer and a snow village in winter, with a small downhill ski area ideal for beginners, and good cross-country and snowshoe trails too. There are many lovely walks for hikers and mountain bikers. The church is well worth a visit (Romanesque nave and Gothic choir...)
