Bordered by the Loire and bathed by the Indre, the Veude and 5 other small rivers, this commune is particularly picturesque. The preserved built heritage of the town center and the romanticism of the paths along the waterways and in the greenery give it a great charm. It is a populated commune for the territory, with 1,475 inhabitants, which keeps a small active trade and a restaurant in front of the church quite nice. On the route of a shared route of the Loire à vélo, the village is often visited by cyclists. The commune has a boule de fort game hall, a dozen castles and manors, beautiful wash houses, troglodytic dwellings, old prune or hemp ovens, vine and fruit lodges, a mill, etc During the Second World War, a group of Resistance villagers belonging to the London Air Operations Office contributed to the Liberation, notably by organizing a landing field for planes, then by transporting ammunition and mail to a safe place, and by housing stowaways and personalities of the Resistance. Seven villagers caught and deported faced torture and death as heroes From 1955 to 1963, Max Ernst and his companion Dorothea Tanning lived in Huismes. The house occupied by the artist couple has been transformed into a museum About fifteen lodgings and ten owners proposing rooms of hosts accomodate you on the commune.
