Pangururan is famous for its hot springs, fed by the 1,982-metre-high Mount Belirang. You're sure to pass over the bright red Aek Tano Ponggol bridge, originally built in 1913 and rebuilt in 2022, the only bridge linking the island of Sumatra to the island of Samosir. From Pangururan, buses leave for Medan and Berastagi, but patience is required. Nearby, discover the Hobon stone, apparently ordinary, but very special to the Batak people, who believe it holds the treasure and legacy of Saribu Raja.

Perched to the north of the town, Golo Curu is a pretty hill offering breathtaking panoramic views over the entire Ruteng region. We strongly advise you to make the ascent at sunrise, to take full advantage of the incredible light effects on the surrounding area. Allow around 30 minutes for a pleasant walk. Ask your hotel to show you the way. The final approach can be tricky on a scooter, but the effort is rewarded with a breathtakingly beautiful picture of calm and serenity. This is Ruteng's most beautiful viewpoint.

The hill's distinctive silhouette, nestled in the heart of the river valley, makes it an enchanting place to discover. Tabiang Takuruang can be reached by crossing the lush rice fields of Bukittinggi. A number of quaint cafés and restaurants can be found nearby. This escapade can be combined with a visit to the Koto Gadang Great Wall and Japanese tunnels.
