Day 1: Visit of Tbilisi

Steps: Sourami, Tbilissi

In itself, the City of Tbilisi has a strong capital of historic monuments. The old town contains many ancient places of worship: Orthodox, Catholic and Armenian churches, mosques, synagogues, ruins of a temple of fire. Civil architecture is also of great richness: bath, fortress, caravanserais, bourgeois houses, sculpted balconies, interior courtyards. The curious of Soviet architecture will also see many prestigious monuments of that time.

Day 2: Museum day in Tbilisi

Two museums are worth a detour in Tbilisi: the Museum of Fine Arts, which contains all the avant-garde painting in Georgia, the naive Pirosmani, and the treasure, the icons, frescoes and jewellery objects of the entire Georgian history. Also, the National Janachia Museum containing the finest treasures of the Georgian archaeological crafts, including gold work. The two museums are at the time of writing, either closed or restricted in their exhibitions: don't be too disappointed if you can't see everything they're supposed to contain.

Day 3: Discovery of Kakhétie

Steps: Telavi, Sighnaghi, Manavi

La is the first region where you will have to go. Close to the capital, there is a very high density of historical monuments (churches, fortresses). You can base yourself in the city of Telavi. By visiting Telavi by the main road, don't miss the fortress of Manavi. Before going to Telavi, take a detour through the fortified town of Sighnaghi, a pearl of civil architecture of the th century, which contains beautiful Armenian churches. Visit the Sighnaghi Museum, which contains a beautiful collection of Pirosmani. Then go through the convent of Bodbé which dominates the plain, where is Saint Nino, which converts the kings from Kartlie to Christianity.

Day 4: Telavi and its environs

Steps: Telavi, Alaverdi, Ikalto, Gourdjaani

Back to Telavi, in Gourdjaani, make a small hook to see Georgia's only double dome church.

Once in Telavi, visit the palace of King Irakli II, Persian type. Nearby you will have the choice between the monastery of Couamta, the Ikalto Academy, the cathedral of Alaverdi, the monasteries of Grémi and Nékressi.

Day 5: David Garedja Monastery

Returning to Tbilisi, from Sagaredjo, visit the only cave monastic complex of David Garedja.

Day 6: Mtskhéta, one of the oldest cities in Georgia

Steps: Mtskheta

By staying based in Tbilisi, you can over a day go to the spiritual heart of Georgia, ostensibly: Mtskhéta, the ancient capital, contains the country's architectural jewels, the cathedral of Svétitskhovéli, the monastery of Djvari, the unique architecture.

Day 7: Around Tbilisi

Steps: Betania

From Tbilisi, you can visit the remote monastery of Chiomvrime, in a natural circus, than go to the Haut mount, high perched. On a day also, you can go to the south, to the monastery of Betania, superbly located in the mountains.

Day 8: Kvémo Kartlie Region

Steps: Bolnissi, Dmanissi

The day after, take an excursion to the south, in Kvémo Kartlie, on the archaeological site of Dmanissi. Stop at the church of Bolnissi, not to mention in this city the curious architecture of the German settlers who lived there until the Second World War.

Day 9: On the Military Road

Steps: Mtskheta, Ananouri, Stépantsminda Khazbégui

North of the capital and Mtskheta, in the Great Caucasus, take the Military Road to Stepantsminda (Khazbegui). There is the legendary Chapel of the Holy Trinity (Tsminda Sameba) at the foot of Mount Kazbek. Don't miss the fortified church complex ofAnanuri on the way.

Day 10: In the middle of the mountains

Steps: Ananouri, Stépantsminda Khazbégui

Between Ananouri and Khazbégui, the road is littered with defensive towers and stately chapels. You will find what you need in Stepantsminda.

Day 11: Fortresses, churches and picturesque villages

Steps: Bolnissi, Batoumi, Ksani, Samtavissi, Gori, Ouplistsikhe

Starting from the west, in Chida Kartlie, stop at the Forteresses and Kaspi fortresses in the Kura Valley, as well as in the village of Igoeti where the beautiful church of Samtavissi is located. Around Gori, see the Cave town of Ouplistsikhé and the church of Sioni in the deep valley of Aténi. In Gori, where you can stay, Stalin's museum is a unique witness to a whole century of history.

Day 12: From Kareli to Koutaïssi

Steps: Sourami, Koutaïssi

A Kareli, don't miss the fortress, as well as Sourami, just before going west. In Sourami, see also the ancient Armenian church. From here you can in 3 hours go to West Georgia in Koutaïssi.

Day 13: Exploration of Koutaïssi

Take your time in Koutaïssi. Don't miss the church of Bagrati. Around the city, the famous sanctuaries: the academy of Guélati, vestige of the cultural power of the XIIth century, and the monastery of Motsaméta, perched on the peak of a meander.

Day 14: On the trail of an ancient queen

A few kilometers south of Koutaïssi, in Gégouti, do not miss the impressive ruins of the palace of Queen Tamar.

Day 15: Ancient sites of Vani

Steps: Vani

Archaeology enthusiasts can then go to Vani. It is here that many archaeological specimens today exposed in the State Museum have been found.

Day 16: First days in the far west

Steps: Zougdidi

Direction the subtropical region of Mingrélie. Visit Sénaki Fortress before visiting Zugdidi where you can see one of Napoleon I's mortuary masks in the museum of the Palais Palace.

Day 17: Zougdidi and its surroundings

Steps: Zougdidi

Around Zugdidi, you will appreciate the frescos of the churches of Tsaïchi and Tsalendjika

Day 18: Southern Georgia

Steps: Bordjomi, Akhaltsikhe

By leaving west Georgia, go through southern Georgia before joining Tbilisi. In front of Likani park in Bordjomi, the fortress is impressive. Then go to Akhaltsikhé, where you will find accommodation and dining.

Day 19: title

Steps: Tbilissi, Akhaltsikhe

In Akhaltsikhe do not miss the old town, which contains the ruins of temples of all religions that have marked the country.

Day 20: Last visits

Steps: Khertvissi, Vardzia

And then it's the Cave, the cave town of Queen Thamar. On the road, stop at the fortresses of Atskhouri, De and the church of Tsounda.
