It is an exceptional site. The most beautiful troglodytic site in Georgia dominates a semi-desert canyon, 12 km from Turkey. It is a grandiose spectacle. Between the twelfth and thirteenth century, it was one of the largest urban centers of Georgia. The remains of the city are a cultural symbol of great importance for Georgians. Classified as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and rightly so, Vardzia is well worth the trip.
