Clinging to a 750 m high hill above the Alazani valley, facing the snow-covered mountains of Dagestan, Sighnaghi offers a grandiose panorama of the Caucasus, the valleys and the vineyards of Kakhetia. It is one of the most beautiful cities in Georgia. This fortified medieval town, which has become a major tourist attraction, still retains, for the time being, a certain charm. In 2006 President Mikhail Saakashvili pledged to make Sighnaghi the Georgian tourist town par excellence and, in extenso, the image of the success of his regime. The centre of the small town has therefore been completely redone, to the detriment of its authenticity. It is nevertheless a good place to stay and a very pleasant base for exploring its surroundings and making day trips. You can visit Telavi, the wine cellars, Gourdjaani, Lagodheki National Park, Kvareli, or explore the site of David Gareja. You will also come to see, in the museum, the paintings of Pirosmani, the great Georgian naive painter. Half a day is more than enough to visit the city, which can be explored on foot.
