Sagonne is located 17 kilometers southwest of La Guerche-sur-L 'Aubois. The commune is part of the Germiny Valley, extending south-east of the Department of Cher, parallel to Nièvre, in calco-marnous terrain of the Jurassic. It is an area of large boatyard, partly covered by forests and favorable for the grazing of white cattle. Sagonne has its name from the protective Roman goddess of the source Soucouna. The base of a statue in its name was found and the site is of Gallo-Roman origin. Ancient oppidum, built along the Roman route linking Lyon to Bourges via Autun, the site was first mentioned in writing in 832. The fortified castle of Sagonne, classified as a historic monument since 1914, the Saint-Laurent church of xiie and xive centuries and the castle of the Motte-Beraud of the xve century are part of the attractions of the municipality. Medieval houses with carved cores can also be admired during a walk.
