Known for its Fosse Dionne, which has become a magnificent circular stone basin converted into a fountain-washhouse, Tonnerre is one of those peaceful towns that are currently very popular with city dwellers. Overlooked by the Saint-Pierre church at the top of the hill, the town stands in a landscape of vines and greenery. Ravaged by a fire in 1556, it has miraculously preserved beautiful monuments that even the major bombings of the Second World War have not destroyed. Tonnerre is also a stopover for boaters on the Canal de Bourgogne. The opportunity for nice walks in its surroundings. And, above all, a city in full revival
