29 km from Troyes, Chaource is located at the source of the Armance, in the middle of the forest that bears its name. At the limit of Champagne and Burgundy, Chaource owes its notoriety to its cheese. It seems that in the th century Charles le Bel and Margarita de Bourgogne were thirsty. A home of renowned cheese, Chaource houses, among others, a museum of cheese. Rich in an exciting history and a considerable heritage, Chaource is also a high place of nature and magnificent land. The village belonged to the most prestigious houses, including the Albret, the Kleve and the Choiseul, who will have it until the Revolution. The village, partly destroyed during the bombings of the Second World War, nevertheless retains beautiful houses with their «allours», that is, their covered passages, an ancient hospice attested from the th century and the splendid church Saint-Jean-Baptiste. A large rural village nestled in a breathtaking landscape of bocage, it reveals itself just one blow away from the forest of Crogny. Wooden houses make it an ideal site for the walk. But above all, villagers can pride themselves on possessing the Mise and the famous golden wooden crèche of Chaource master.Market on Monday morning.
