Formerly Saint-Liébault, hence the name of its inhabitants, the Liébautines, Estissac change name when Louis Armand de La Rochefoucault inherited the village in 1758. A castle is built there later on the location of an old castle, but there is no trace of it today. Nestled between three small rivers, the village then hosts a fairly large stationery industry, which is also missing. Today the village is deserting, with shops closing one after another, but its famous Pig Festival (last weekend of August) and its salmonid farming, where salmon can be tasted locally and try to fish high trout also in the village, are still worth the detour. Estissac is also the starting point for many excursions to the country of Othe.
