Verdun, at the confluence of the Saône and Doubs rivers, is a city where most of the tourist activity takes place on the river. More than a thousand years old, this small town has always been a place of passage. In the Middle Ages, it was a crossroads between the Germanic countries and the kingdom of France and was long coveted, hence the presence of ramparts in today's town. In historic Verdun, the Pont Saint-Jean and the Ile du Château are well worth a visit. This sensitive natural area, where nature once again reigns supreme, can be explored on two footpaths. River tourism and quality of life have made Verdun-sur-le-Doubs a green vacation town.
