Allerey-sur-Saône is downstream from the confluence of the Saône and Doubs rivers. Its location made it a strategic place to set up an American military camp during the First World War. No less than 30,000 men were housed in this hospital which served as an entrenchment for the war wounded. Alllerey is now a peaceful commune on the banks of the Saône whose banks are an ideal route for cyclists taking the Eurovélo 6 which runs alongside the village on the other side of the railway line. Part of the territory has been designated as Natura 2000, underlining the town's efforts to preserve its natural environment.
