Situated just off the Route des Vins, around 9 kilometers from Colmar, the commune of Ostheim was virtually wiped off the map during the bloody episode of the Poche de Colmar at the end of the Second World War. As a result, its heritage is very limited. Officially recognized as a martyred town and awarded the Croix de Guerre in 1948, Ostheim still has a wall crowned with a stork's nest, the only evidence of the fighting during the Liberation. A detour is nonetheless well worthwhile, as the village boasts a number of fine wine cellars and restaurants. It's also a good starting point for exploring the Colmar region.
