The Bennwihr area has always been a place of passage: the Celts already used it when they went along the Vosges! The first mention of Bennwihr appears in 777 under the name of Bebonovillare. Land of the Lords of Horbourg in the 15th century, the village was destroyed between December 1944 and January 1945 during the Battle of the Poche de Colmar. Only the monument to the dead of the 1914-1918 war (today called Monument of Fidelity) was spared. The village was rebuilt between 1946 and 1959 in the style of the neo-alsacian school of architecture. Bennwihr is located on the path of the wine trail of the Grands Crus Les Perles du Vignoble.
