The Forêt forest west of the Rhone Canal in the Rhine occupies almost half the municipality. This vast forest of 13 000 ha represents the second forest of the Alsace plain. Oak and charm are the dominant species. The troène, blood dogwood, viorne, lantane, hawthorn compound the shrub stratum. The artificial island of the Rhine, resulting from the excavation of the Alsace canal, has an island vegetation, which is the successor to the original alluvial ormaie, based on willows, poplars, beds, filled… Despite its artificial character, this site has become a sanctuary for the survival of birds in Alsace. This wetland is a refuge for many breeding species (least dwarf, tern, martin-fisherman…) or in winter (seagull, duck, mallard, teal).Between 1992-1996, the Reach de Niffer was enlarged and built for the Rhine-Rhone river connection. On the Niffer site, the lockmaster staff will tell you whether it is appropriate to borrow the lock by Le Corbusier or the new lock. Access by the Huningue Canal to the Plaisance Marina and its floating restaurant: The Barge.
