Visitors to this small medieval town are more than welcome to stroll around its cultural sites: the Musée sundgauvien, the Prieuré Saint-Morand, the Schlaghaus tower, the Vierge fountain, the old city walls and other medieval remains, and the Maison du peintre Arthur Schachenmann. Numerous guided tours are also organized, and over 120 cultural and sporting events take place throughout the year: the Enchanted Forest in December, the Short Film Festival in spring, the Fête de la Musique and the Sound'Go Festival in summer, concerts and many other shows put on by energetic local associations. The town's dynamism is reflected not only in its major institutional infrastructures, such as the Centre Rhénan d'Art Contemporain - CRAC - and the École de Musique du Sundgau, but also in its highly-developed network of associations! On the commercial side, it's worth noting the strong mobilization of the group since 1956, since, united within Altkirch Tradition, some one hundred members (shopkeepers, restaurateurs, craftsmen, professionals and service providers) have been awarded two "panonceau d'Or" by the CCI Alsace in recognition of their actions. The traditional Foire Sainte-Catherine is Alsace's oldest agricultural fair, with the sale of local produce, exhibitions (farm machinery, farm animals) and musical entertainment. It takes place every year on the last Thursday in November in the streets of Altkirch!
