You'll fall under the spell of this small town, once fortified with three castles and eighteen turrets, a legacy of the prosperity the village enjoyed during the Renaissance thanks to its wine-growing industry. Soultz is a real eye-catcher, with its old houses, picturesque lanes, vintage porches, wash-houses and double ramparts still protecting the center. The locals will tell you that every Soultzien is an artist. Its history is linked to that of the bishopric of Strasbourg. It was the birthplace of Katia Krafft, a volcanologist who died in 1991, and of Baron d'Anthès, who killed the playwright Pushkin in 1837.
