Ardara had its heyday in the Middle Ages when the Judges of Torres decided to establish their court here in the 11th century. Tired of the barbarian attacks in Torres, they took up residence in this quiet town in the summer. The ruins of the Burgos castle with its 12-metre tower can still be seen. But the architectural masterpiece of this village is the Basilica of Nuestra Señora del Regno built in 1107. Weddings, baptisms and funerals of the members of the reigning dynasty were celebrated here. Today, the patron saint's day is celebrated on May 9 and the men's choirs sing the sos gosos, praises to the Virgin Mary.
