Ozieri is the capital of Logudoro or "place of gold", a name given because of the fertility of its land which produces a lot of cereals and pastures. This region is rich in an exceptional archaeological heritage, so much so that the city gave its name to a period of the Neolithic: the Ozieri culture. Situated at an altitude of 400 m, the town dominates the vast surrounding plains. Its narrow and steep streets can only be visited on foot. While strolling through the town, one cannot fail to admire the remarkable 19th century patrician houses or to taste the suspiros, a cake made of crushed almonds and covered with a lime sugar glaze.
