Borutta lies between the villages of Thiesi and Torralba, nestled in the corner of a hill. Remains of carved stones and ceramics have been discovered in the Ulari cave, which attest to a human presence as early as 3,500 B.C. It is also home to the largest colony of bats in Sardinia. You should try to come to Borutta on June 29th for the festival of San Pietro di Sorres. The inhabitants dress in their best traditional costume and go in procession to the church of the Benedictine monastery. Behind its elegant 12th century façade lies a stunning interior all in black and white.
