The Habsburgs had erected a toll on the Rhine trade in Nambsheim, on its former Roman road. But the inhabitants were very concerned about flooding. Along the Rhine and the Alsace Canal, dykes had to be built to minimize the risk of flooding as early as the 18th century. The last ones were built in 1890 before the Baden engineer Tulla corrected the river's course. Today, the town of Nambsheim has just under 600 inhabitants. You can visit several monuments, including the church of St. Stephen, an old mill or a bench erected during the Second Empire. The town is located 30 km from Colmar
