In 768 the Heiteren castle was replaced by a castle built by Siegfried for his son Altmann. During the Thirty Years' War, the entire population was massacred and dislodged by Swedish troops and the castle destroyed. The latter was replaced around 1710 by another building, sold as a national property during the Revolution, ruined by a fire in 1840 and demolished in 1864 under Louis Blanchard... A Mr. Schmitt then bought the ruins at auction in the hope of discovering a treasure but he ruined himself by searching the area without finding anything. Maybe you'll have better luck walking around?
