In a panoramic position above Aosta, Gignod is the first village of the Great St. Bernard valleys, at the confluence of the Buthier and Artanavaz torrents. This village with its beautiful stone houses includes a medieval tower and a church with 15th century frescos. It is a perfect stopover on the road to Switzerland, where you can admire the landscape characterised by the beautiful peak of Mount Emilius which rises on the other side of the valley. Higher up, Etroubles, crossed by the state road 27, assumes the role of capital of the Artanavaz valley, while Allein lies on the opposite slope in a quiet and sunny position.
