Off the beaten track, the San Carlos lagoon lies 20 minutes from Coronado and half an hour from El Valle, at an altitude of 800 m, surrounded by verdant mountains. Accessible every day, you can enjoy a swim or go hiking in the heights around the lagoon, notably to Cerro El Sapo or Cerro Picacho, 1,082 m high and offering a beautiful view of the Pacific when the sky is clear. This is a fairly easy hike, but can be tricky at times due to the 285-meter difference in altitude and the frequent muddy, slippery terrain. Allow around 2.5 hours round trip.
