The Miraflores locks are the closest to the capital and therefore the most touristic. The construction work was completed in 1913, two years after the construction of Pedro Miguel on the Pacific side and was one of the most important engineering works of its time. The visitors' center was built a few months after the recovery of the canal by the Panamanians, in the early 2000s. Its very interesting museum, which takes about 2 hours to visit, allows you to learn everything about the canal and its original locks, which continue to function despite the installation of the new Cocolí locks (the latter are not open to visitors)
