Nestled in the vast crater of a volcano that last erupted 13,000 years ago, El Valle is one of those places where it's good to breathe. You'll realize this as soon as you leave the Pan-American Highway, driving the 30 kilometers or so to this village at an altitude of 600 meters. At the end of this winding road, you'll be rewarded by the coolness of the mountains; here, temperatures oscillate between 20 and 28°C all year round. So it would be a shame to spend just one day here and only have time to visit its craft market. The village is full of points of interest: hiking, biking, swimming under waterfalls, hot springs, orchid gardens, petroglyphs and even trees with square trunks! A great range of activities, but be aware that, as is often the case in the Panamanian mountains, it's not uncommon for drizzle to chase the sun away in the early afternoon, especially in winter, so get up early and pack a rain cape! You'll also need pants and a light fleece for the evening.
