A dozen Embera families, around 60 people, have settled on the shores of Lake Gatún in recent years, having left the community of Parara Purú. Embera Quera, like the communities along the Río Chagres, is often visited by tourists. Arriving at the village after a twenty-minute motorized pirogue ride through the forest is quite magical, as you disembark at a pontoon that leads to the community. As in all villages, you need to bring your own water and fruit. The community suffered two serious fires in 2017 and 2018 but has since resumed normal activities.
