This small village of 350 souls, located at 652 m above sea level, is surrounded by mountains. It is worth a visit for its quietness and its information centre of the natural park of the Friulian Dolomites. Cimolais has existed since the Middle Ages. The land was donated by the Lombard brothers Efro, Marco and Anto to the abbey of Sesto al Reghena in 762 and remained under the rule of the church until the 15th century. Under the command of the Republic of Venice, Cimolais, situated in the heart of the forests, became an important base for the supply of wood for the construction of ships. In passing, notice the 16th century wooden altar of the Santa Maria church
