With 1 000 inhabitants, the municipality of Torquemada is located on the banks of the Pisuerga River. It is here that the day saw the infante of Catherine de Castille in 1507, the future queen of Portugal, daughter of Jeanne la Folle and Philippe de Habsburg. His brother, Emperor Charles Quint, visited this commune of the Cerrato Valley several times, the first time during a trip in 1520, and the last one in 1556 during his journey to the Yuste monastery. Its historic centre retains several worthy monuments, such as the Santa Eulalia church with its imposing th century steeple. One can also see the house of another visitor, José Zorrilla, who was one of the main Spanish playwrights of the th century.
