With more than 79,000 inhabitants, it is the capital of a small province brilliantly marked by the passage of the Way of Saint James. The city was completely disfigured by industrial growth. Only its cathedral, called the Beautiful Unknown, preserves the mysterious magic of Romanesque art in its crypt. The Calle Mayor, almost 1 km long, is the central axis of Palencia. On either side of this avenue is the San Miguel area, filled with small taverns and tapas bars. Don't miss the unmissable lechazo(suckling lamb) and the other emblematic dishes: sopa castellana and menestra palentina (vegetable stew).
