Approximately 56 km east of Valladolid, this small village of less than 5,400 inhabitants overlooks the River Duratón from its curious castle. Known since the 10th century, it underwent several transformations before acquiring its present form in the 15th century. Since 1999, it has been home to the Provincial Wine Museum, an interesting wine route that presents the different Denominations of Origin of the region. Peñafiel is particularly renowned for its wineries and wine cooperatives, which can be visited to complete the visit to the museum. It is also impossible to leave without tasting lechazo asado (roast lamb), the local speciality!
