In the center of the Gulf of Tigullio, the seaside resort enjoys an enviable position which, since the 19th century, has attracted luxury tourism. Situated between the green hills of the Portofino promontory and the rocky coastline that separates it from Zoagli, the historic town is picturesque. The narrow pedestrian carruggi have become pleasant walking and shopping streets. The Lungomare Vittorio Veneto, lined with an avenue of palm trees, is the city's open-air salon in every season, with its cafés and restaurants. At the end of the Lungomare are the ruins of a castle built in 1550 to defend the port and the city.
