More refined than other towns, the structure of the buildings often features painted decorations. In the Middle Ages, Corniglia was one of the residences of the noble Genoese Fieschi family. The small hilltop village of San Bernardino, accessible only by road, offers a panoramic view of the entire Cinque Terre.Since 2006, Cinque Terre has been twinned with the Great Wall of China! If all the dry-stone walls supporting the cultivated terraces of the five villages were lined up, the total length would be 6,729 km, comparable to that of the Great Wall (7,000 km).
