Chiconi is a small village living from agriculture and fishing, and still somewhat from the vanilla culture. The commune is very much inclined towards music because of the many artists who live there and the famous Milatsika festival which takes place there every year in October, welcoming local and Indian Ocean musicians over several days. At the end of the year, the Festival du geste et du savoir-faire also takes place, valuing the crafts (jewellery, carpentry, cabinet making...) in the presence of creators from the whole island. There is the last potter of Mayotte, making her pieces from sand and clay.
