Tsingoni, the cradle of Maori Islam and former capital of the Sultanate of Mayotte, has the oldest mosque on the island, dating from the 16th century, which is also the oldest active mosque in France. It is possible to see Shirazian tombs there. Dominated by a minaret and overlooking a pretty bay, Tsingoni is perhaps the prototype of the future Mauritanian villages. The tin huts are replaced by small one-storey houses with a balcony. The colors are not absent, which gives them a real charm. You have to go up as high as possible in the village to admire the forest that surrounds it and the lagoon.
