It's hard to understand how such a beautiful site can be so isolated! In the past, Panauti was the capital of the kingdom of the same name and the town centre is still marked by these beautiful buildings. But the city has expanded and modernity has brought its share of inconveniences: one cannot pass through Panauti without regretting the past splendour of the Newar period. To find some traces of it, it is necessary to walk in the alleys with the brick houses of the old city, to take the footbridges which cross the two rivers, to go to see the remainders of the temples of Krishna Narayan or that of Brahmayani and to spend a few moments at the Lampati café where one can also have lunch.
