A few kilometers southwest of Patan, Khokana is a traditional Newar village that seems asleep in another era. Badly damaged by the 2015 earthquake, reconstruction has begun slowly, and the local life that has resumed despite everything is one of the attractions: sit down at a local café to observe it, or stroll through the surrounding alleyways to approach the women weaving wool. The main Rudrayani temple erected by King Amara Malla in the 15th century gave birth to the town of Khokana. Among the buildings still standing is an imposing two-storey temple dedicated to the goddess Shekala Mai.
