The region's capital, Lévis occupies the site of the first village on Quebec's south shore, Saint-Joseph-de-la-Pointe-Lévy, located in the Lauzon seigneury. Although Samuel de Champlain nicknamed it Cap de Lévy in 1629, it wasn't until 1861 that the town was officially founded under its current name. The rich architectural heritage of Vieux-Lévis, Saint-Nicolas and Saint-Romuald is a must-see, with centuries of architecture to discover. For a break during the day, visit the terrasse de Lévis, at the bottom of rue William-Tremblay, or the Quai Paquet, which offer the finest panoramic views of Quebec City's old town.
