Fort among a chain of three forts and defensive system of Quebec to counter the possible invasion of the Americans.
Although never used, this fort is the first link in a chain of three forts built under the supervision of British military engineers between 1865 and 1872. This line of forts completed Quebec City's defensive system to prevent the possible invasion of the Americans by land. Higher than the Citadel of Québec, Fort Numéro-Un dominates the entire region and offers a spectacular panoramic view of Old Québec and the Côte-de-Beaupré.
